Treatment General management, as outlined under ‘management of functional illness’ is extremely important, and will be of enormous help to the patient.

Drugs have proved quite diosappointing in the majority of instances, and clinical trials have failed ot establish superiority or infallibility of any group of drugs. Prokinetic agents like mosapride (100mg tid) or metclopramide (5-10mg tid), iotopride (50mg tds) before food are perhaps the most helpful drugs available. Antacids may be tried in patients with occasional dyspepsia, H1 blockers merit a trial as also eradicators of H. Pylori. Tricyclic Antidepressants help in many patients.
